LOCTITE 480 is a one-part, rubber-toughened, low-viscosity cyanoacrylate instant adhesive designed for bonding close-fitting parts. Its toughened formulation provides excellent resistance to impact, peel and shear forces, making it suitable for demanding industrial bonding applications where conventional instant adhesives may be more susceptible to shock or impact.
LOCTITE 480 is black in colour and is particularly suitable for bonding metals, elastomers and plastics. It has a fixture time of approximately 90 seconds on steel and can fill gaps up to approximately 0.18 mm.

Rubber
Compatible plastics
For difficult-to-bond plastics, Henkel recommends the use of LOCTITE SF 770 primer to improve adhesion.
Why Choose LOCTITE 480?
The rubber-toughened formulation gives LOCTITE 480 a significant advantage in applications exposed to impact, vibration and mechanical shock. Unlike standard brittle instant adhesives, its toughened formulation is designed to provide improved resistance to peel and impact forces.
Its low viscosity allows the adhesive to spread readily over close-fitting surfaces, while the fast fixture time supports efficient assembly operations.
How to Apply LOCTITE 480
1. Surface Preparation
Clean and degrease the surfaces before bonding. Henkel recommends using an appropriate LOCTITE cleaner to remove oil, grease and other contaminants.
2. Primer for Difficult Plastics
For difficult-to-bond plastic surfaces, apply LOCTITE SF 770 to the bonding area and allow it to dry before applying the adhesive.
3. Apply Adhesive
Apply a small amount of LOCTITE 480 to one of the surfaces. Because it is a low-viscosity adhesive, excessive application should be avoided.
4. Assemble
Bring the components together immediately and maintain alignment until the adhesive fixtures.
5. Allow Full Cure
The adhesive continues to develop strength after initial fixture. Allow sufficient curing time before subjecting the assembly to full service loads.
Cure Speed
LOCTITE 480 provides a fixture time of approximately 90 seconds on steel under the conditions specified by Henkel. Cure speed can vary depending on substrate, bond gap, temperature and surface condition. An appropriate LOCTITE activator can be used where faster curing is required.
